oil on canvas
Mud Lake is where the Bear Lake Bird Refuge resides just north and connected to Bear Lake. Bulrushes grow in abundance and surround swans, geese and pelicans. Spring is a good time to see baby birds swimming around. I’ve driven around the area once already, and I look forward to more trips. Soon the bulrushes will green up and the water color will intensify.
I forgot to take more progression photos but at this point in the process I let it sit and dry before adding the swans.
The photo reference I used for this painting originally had more birds in the frame. I liked the two in the front so I decided to place them barely symmetrical.
I’m excited to go photograph more swans and hope to see more during my next trip.
